The Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science, in collaboration with KCA University, hosted an engaging public lecture by Prof. Yannis P. Pitsiladis, Professor of Sports and Exercise Science at Hong Kong Baptist University.
The lecture, titled "Running Lessons from Thirty Years of Study in East Africa: From the Villages to Podiums," drew scholars, students, sport professionals, alumni, regulators and institutional partners.
Drawing on three decades of research, Prof. Pitsiladis examined the science behind East Africa's distance-running success and discussed athlete performance, nutrition, professionalism, doping sanctions and emerging genomic research.
He emphasised multidisciplinary research, athlete welfare and the responsible use of science and technology to protect integrity in sport. The lecture strengthened the Department's research dissemination and international engagement.
